    Fatehpur Sikri Tour Package

    Fatehpur Sikri, is a walled city which was once ruled by Sikarwar Rajput’s in the 12th century. The city was founded by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the year 1569 which is situated at a distance of 37 kms from the city of Taj – Agra. Mughal Emperor Akbar visited this place in search of a great Sufi Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti, who predicted the birth of Akbar’s son who will be his heir. Later, when the words came true, Akbar decided to establish this city of Fatehpur and a mosque to pay tribute to the Sufi Saint.

    Fatehpur Sikri, is a beautifully ancient city which was built and established between the year 1571 to 1585 using the finest red sandstone getting inspiration from Mughal, Hindu and Persian architectural designs. The city was fortified with a long stretch of 11kms high walls and numerous gateways. The city comprises a massive palace for the King Akbar and three smaller palaces for his wives, a mosque dedicated to Sufi Saint, cluster of several complexes for different purposes, courtyards and a majestic gateway to enter the city named Bulaand Darwaza.

    Bulaand Darwaza was constructed in the year 1601 to celebrate the victory of Akbar over Gujarat. Bulaand Darwaza is the highest gateway of the world with the magnificent Height of 54m and consists of 15-storeys. This massive gateway is built using red sandstone and pure white marble.

    Jama Masjid

    Jama Masjid was constructed in the year 1571 AD inspired from Iranian and Mughal architecture. This is one of the largest mosques in the world which can accommodate 25,000 devotees at one time. This mosque houses the tomb of Sufi Saint Salim Chisti which was built in 1581.

    Jodha Bai Palace

    Jodha Bai Palace is one of the most beautiful parts of Fatehpur Sikri which is also known as “Raniwas” as it is the palace of Akbar’s favorite wife Jodha Bai who was a Hindu. This double-storey palace has a massive gateway and high walls to provide complete privacy. It houses a small temple inside the palace.

    Panch Mahal

    Panch Mahal was constructed by Mughal Emperor Akbar near the harem of women. This five-storey building has several pillars and open walls in order to provide cool breeze during the hot summers.

    Pachisi Court

    Pachisi Court is the main courtyard which was built by Akbar in order to play games with his wives and special members of his court. The courtyard has several white and black checks on the floors which is similar to chess. However, instead of chess pieces, Akbar used to play this game with humans.
