Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve
Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is the main part of the forest area around Tadoba. It covers 610 square kilometers and is well known for its Bengal tigers. Other animals here include leopards, sloth bears, wild dogs, and over 190 types of birds. The park is split into three ranges: Tadoba in the north, Kolsa in the south, and Moharli in the center. You can enter through gates like Moharli, Kolara, and Khutwanda. These areas include forests, open meadows, and water sources like the Andhari River.
Moharli Zone
The Moharli Zone is the most visited part of the reserve and one of the best areas for spotting tigers. It has bamboo groves, teak trees, and wide grasslands that attract animals like deer and wild boars. Moharli village is nearby and has many places to stay. The zone is close to Tadoba Lake, which draws animals in the summer when the water is low.
Kolsa Range
Kolsa Range lies in the southern part of the reserve and is less crowded than the other zones. This area is full of dense forest, small hills, and lakes like Kolsa Lake. Many people enjoy Kolsa for its peaceful setting and fewer jeeps on the road. You can spot deer, wild dogs, leopards, and sometimes tigers. This makes it a calm and quiet route for a Tadoba National Park safari.
Tadoba Lake
Tadoba Lake is inside the core zone of the park. It’s a key water source during the dry months and is surrounded by forest and grasslands. You may see crocodiles along the edges and many birds, including raptors like the White-eyed Buzzard. It’s also a great spot for watching colorful birds such as paradise flycatchers. This lake is often included in planned Tadoba National Park tours.
Erai (Irai) Dam
Erai Dam is about 12 kilometers from the main park area. It is built on the Erai River and creates a large water body that helps supply water to the region. The backwaters attract many birds, especially during winter migration. Boating is allowed here, and you can enjoy views of the forest and sometimes see animals near the banks.
Mahakali Temple, Chandrapur
The Mahakali Temple is located in the city of Chandrapur, not far from Tadoba. It is dedicated to the goddess Mahakali and is one of the main spiritual sites in the area. The temple is especially busy during festivals like Navratri. The building mixes old and new design styles.
