    Khajjiar is a small hill station which is located at a distance of 24 kms from Dalhousie in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. Khajjiar is well known as “Mini Switzerland” of India.     Khajjiar is a great place for nature lovers as it offers an amazing trek of 14 kms into the Khajjiar forests and can be an adventurous place for young as it also offers great activities like paragliding, zorbing, horse-riding and many more.

    Places to Visit in Khajjiar

    Khajjiar Lake

    Khajjiar is an immensely beautiful place however, Khajjiar lake also adds itself to the charm of this small hill station. The lake is located in the middle of the green meadows which is surrounded by thick deodar and cedar forests which makes this place more photogenic and extremely beautiful. One can take a panoramic view of the plateau from a distance which will have a complete view of the lake and thick forest on its back. You can also enjoy riding a horse alongside the lake or go zorbing down the hill which are the best activities you can enjoy at this place. Along with this, if the sky is clear you can also take pictures of majestic Mount Kailash which adds cherry on top of this place.

    Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary

    Are you a trek lover? Don’t be upset, as Khajjiar offers great treks for the trek lovers which starts from the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary. You can go for a short or a long trek which is 14 kms from this place. Walking through the big deodar trees and laid down intersecting paths will be a lifetime experience as this trek is a paradise for nature lovers. You can also opt to visit the sanctuary which is a home for various animals like Himalayan Black Marten, Barking Goral, Langur, bear jackal and Leopard. You can also go for Chamba Trek which starts from Khajjiar.

    Khaji Nag Temple

    Khaji Nag Temple is situated close to Khajjiar lake which has religious as well as historic importance. This temple was built in the 12th century on the banks of the lake which is dedicated to the Lord of Serpents. You will see the glimpse of Hindu and Muslim style architecture on the walls of the temple and surrounding buildings. Inside the temple, you can see the images of Lord Shiva, Goddess Hadimba, stories of Pandavas and Kauravs laid on the inside walls of the temple.

    The Great Pandav Tree

    On the opposite side of the lake you can be amazed to see this great holy tree which is dedicated to pandas as the tree divides itself into 6 branches from the roots which is believed to be a tree of Pandavas. You can take pictures of this holy tree and complete valley as this spot is great for taking pictures of the complete plateau consisting of Khaji Nag Temple, Khajjiar Lake, dense forest and lush green meadows making it “Mini Switzerland” of India.
